This article dealt with this matter by illustrating a prophetic hadeeth on Istikharah's pray and its necessity in all issues.

Unanswered Supplication: This is a valuable article shows why Allah does not answer a person's supplication whose food, drink, clothes have unlawful sources. Although his long travel (which is one of answering supplication's reasons), raising his hands to heaven and his call, "O Allah, O Allah," his supplication is unanswered because of his sinful deeds.
