We are students in the U.S. and Canada, and we face the same problem every year at the beginning of Ramadaan, because the Muslims are split into three groups:A group that fasts when the new moon is sighted in the city in which they live. A group that fasts when fasting starts in Saudi Arabia. A group that fasts when they hear news from the Muslim students’ union in the U.S. and Canada which watches for the new moon in different parts of America, and as soon as the new moon is sighted in one city, they spread the news to different Islamic centres so that the Muslims in America can start fasting on the same day, despite the great distances between the different cities. Which group should we follow? Whose sighting of the moon should we rely on? Please give us a fatwa, may Allaah reward you.

The ruling on one who has intercourse with his wife during the day in Ramadaan is to offer expiation (kafaarah), which is freeing a slave or fast two consecutive months or feed sixty poor but the questions are:1-If the husband had intercourse more than once in different days,should he fast two consecutive months for each day or for all? 2-If the person didn’t know the ruling mentioned,what should he do? 3-Should the wife offer similar to the husband? 4-Is it permissible to pay money instead of feeding? 5-Is it permissible to feed one poor for himself and his wife? 6-If he didn’t find someone to feed,could he pay money to charity organization?

If I saw a muslim eating or drinking forgetting that he is fasting in the morning of Ramadaan,should I tell him as in the hadith it is Allah who makes him eat and drink?

The intention of fasting is obliged in the morning or at night as if it was said to you at the time of forenoon that this day is Ramadan should I make up that day?
