Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjed answers the following question, "I live in the US and am employed with a retail clothing company that has two end-of-year traditions affecting its employees: (1) Issuance of a "Christmas" bonus in an amount determined by salary and company sales performance and (2) An allotment of $50 to be used for, or towards a "holiday" meal of their choosing. Are these actions considered unacceptable gifts?"

Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjed answers the following question, "During Christmas in Australia, there are huge discounts on things like clothing, furniture, electronics, etc. Is it permissible to shop to get this discount which is generally not available during other parts of the year?"

Is it permissible to spread it and will we be rewarded for doing so or not permissible because it is a heresy? 'Insha’ Allah, at 12 midnight on New Year's Eve we will all pray two rakahs, read the Quran, remember our Lord, or supplicate Allah because if our Lord looks at the Earth at a time when most of the world is disobeying Him, he will find that the Muslims are still obeying Him. By Allah, you have to send this message to everyone you know because the more our numbers increase, the more our Lord will be pleased.' Please advise me, may Allah bless you!"

Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjed answers the following question, "I know that congratulating the Christians and Jews for their festivals is forbidden as it means approving their wrong beliefs. Is it permissible for me to send to whom I know of them messages containing no congratulation? Like sending “ I wish you all good” or “I wish you the best” with an intention of wishing guidance for them?"

Should we pour away the food or should we reject it even if rejecting it can cause misunderstanding with them?"

I have been offered a position with responsibility for exports but the factory will ask me to make some gifts that are just for Christian holidays (Christmas) such as crosses and images. Is this work permissible? I fear Allah now that I have been blessed with some knowledge and have memorized His Book."

Every year a classroom gets an adopted family that is poor so they can buy gifts and food and donate money to them for Christmas. Unfortunately, I have refused to donate any money or give any food for the following reason: These denotations will be done in the name of Christmas so that when the adopted family receives these donations, they will say, 'God Bless the Christians.' Am I right for refusing to give donations?"

I am the only Muslim in my family, married to a Muslim, and live in another province in Canada away from them so they are not close to me. This year I unplugged the phone on that day so I could avoid the issue. What should I do?"

Currently, they are wearing black for the occasion of Ashooraa. Is it permissible for us in response to wear bright colours and extra adornment for the sole purpose of annoying them?! Is it permissible for us to backbite about them and pray against them, knowing that they have clearly expressed hatred for us? And I have seen one of them wearing amulets on which are written mysterious words and she had a stick in her hand with which she was pointing to one of the students, and I was harmed by that and am still being harmed. May Allaah reward you with good!"

Fasting always makes me weak and I start to look pale and debilitated. In addition to that, next week I will start my studies at University, which is about an hour away from where I live. Moreover, the day is very long here in Canada, and I also work during the weekend. My question is: Is fasting obligatory in my case, or is it permissible for me not to fast and to make it up later on, on the days that I think are suitable?”

I could not refuse the gift, lest she be offended. Can I accept this gift, as the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) accepted gifts from disbelievers?"
