If a person repents and feels that he has fulfilled all of the conditions of repentance, can he be sure that his repentance has been accepted, or should he just hope that this is so?

    Praise be to Allaah.

We put this question to Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, who answered as follows:

No, he can only hope that this is so. No one can be sure that his repentance has been accepted.

    And Allaah knows best.
