A fatwa translated into English in which Sh. Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjed answers the following question, "As a recent revert to Islam I am always trying to gain extra knowledge and guidance, inshallah. My question relates to my current job. I work as a home carer, taking care of the needs of a severely handicapped person, who suffered brain damage during birth. This person is 42yrs old, although his brain activity and mental capabilities are that of a baby, he has no control what so ever over his body and is unable to do anything for himself i.e. he cannot wash dress or feed himself and wears pads for toileting, he is also unable to walk or talk at all and is confined to a wheel chair. I've already been told I am able to work with this person but now I’m wondering whether being in close contact with this person will break my wudoo, as I have to touch him on a daily basis."

A fatwa translated into English in which Sh. Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjed answers the following question, "I am now sixteen. When I was fourteen I had some bad friends and I used to spend most of my time with them. I used to go out with them during the day in Ramadan, and I used to break the fast and eat food and smoke cigarettes, etc. I also used to do the secret habit. I do not remember how many days I broke the first, as it never occurred to me that I would have to make them up. I also did not know that the secret habit is haraam. What should I do now? Can you give me any advice? Can observing naafil fasts take the place of making up fasts?"

Fasting always makes me weak and I start to look pale and debilitated. In addition to that, next week I will start my studies at University, which is about an hour away from where I live. Moreover, the day is very long here in Canada, and I also work during the weekend. My question is: Is fasting obligatory in my case, or is it permissible for me not to fast and to make it up later on, on the days that I think are suitable?”
